Toji lives and plays, and teaches Honkyoku and Sankyoku in the traditions of Mujuan (Kyoto) and Nyokai-an in Portland Maine.He regularly visits Kyoto to study Shakuhachi and recently performed in the 50th Year commemoration of Mujuan. Toji’s style is largely influenced by the Jin Nyodo lineage, which plays Honkyoku from many different temples in the style that is appropriate for that temple or region and era. We also play Kinko-ryu pieces, Sankyoku (ensemble), Jiuta and Minyo. If you have any questions or want to study shakuhachi please reach out.
