Born November 2, 1910, Onosagi Gyokudō (Onosagi Shūichi) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Nōtomi Judō. He passed the NHK audition in 1950 and started teaching in 1960. During his more than 40 years as a performer and teacher, he belonged to the Judō-kai and was Director of the Tochigi Prefecture Sankyoku-kai.
