Born in Shimonoseki in 1976 as the third daughter of Yanase Kazuko, a jiuta shamisen and koto player from Kyushu. She started playing koto at the age of six and shamisen at the age of sixteen under the guidance of her mother. In 1989, she studied Sankyoku (ensemble music) under shakuhachi master Araki Kodō V. Studied koto under Oda keiko in 1992. In 1993, while a student at Yamaguchi Prefectural Chofu High School, she founded the koto club. In the same year, she began studying koto under master Fujii Yasukazu of the Ginmeikai. In 1997 she studied koto and shamisen under Akagi Mitsuaki. In 1999 she became a koto teacher at Yamaguchi Prefectural Chofu High School. Lives and works in Shimonoseki City. She is currently active in performing in Yamaguchi, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, and Oita, as well as teaching and nurturing younger students.
