Shakuhachi
I began learning Tozan-Ryu shakuhachi in 2006 from Nakamura Genzan while living in Miyazaki. I was awarded 'jun-shihan' and permission to teach after examination at Tozan HQ (Kyoto) in 2009, and awarded 'shihan' after examination in Fukuoka in 2012. I participated in shakuhachi ensemble and san-kyoku performances in Japan, as a member of the local Tozan-Ryu chapter and the Miyazaki san-kyoku society. While later living in New Zealand, I collaborated with Christchurch-based koto/sangen group 'Koyukai' to perform san-kyoku at concerts and other events. My family and I are currently living in Tipp City, Ohio.
