Nishimura Kōho (Nishimura Ōtozō) was born on January 22, 1906 in Osaka Prefecture. He studied Chikuho-ryū shakuhachi under Mori Kōho (of the Sakai Chikuō [Sakai Chikuho I] lineage). He started teaching in 1930. Over his more than 40-year shakuhachi career, he belonged to the Seibi-kai and was a councilor of the Osaka Sankyoku Association.
