Momose Itsukyū (Momose Masao) was born on February 24, 1890 in Nagano Prefecture. He studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Ikeda Itsuren and Jin Nyodō. He began teaching in 1935. He was a member of the Shakuhachi Itsuren-kai. He had a career performing and teaching shakuhachi for more than 40 years.
